On Thursday, May 7, the Marian Catholic Girls Soccer team celebrated Senior Night to honor the dedication of graduating students. The night consisted of a game against Manteno, the senior walkout, and plenty of treats and food in the Leadership Center.
Senior night at Marian is a tradition for a variety of sports. It is meant to celebrate graduating seniors for a specific group or team. From tennis to basketball to soccer, senior night is a tradition all over Marian’s athletics.
The night drew strong support from students and parents, filling the stadium with energy and encouragement. Players described the match as one of the most competitive of the season.
The game started off fast and competitive, progressing into a number of unpredictable moments, marked by defensive stands from both sides and many saves from goalkeeper Jocelyn Brennan. Forwards Nyla Williams and Alex Spraggins led the game to an offensive play, resulting in a final goal from Nyla several yards away from the goal. Many other key contributors⸺seniors Summer Rivera, Sophia Lucente, Elizabeth Lopez, Adryanna Mota, Leslie Infante, and Julianna Espinosa⸺helped out with the play in the midfield and defensive areas, helping to move the ball up and lead the Spartans out of danger. The game progressed even further as tension heightened between both teams, which later ended in 1-1 tie.
But the celebration and excitement wasn’t over just yet. Following the game, players and senior parents were invited to celebrate the seniors, where a variety of foods were offered to all the celebrants and guests.
The time was an exciting experience for everyone, and all of the girls enjoyed the memorable moments they shared with the seniors as they embarked on their next journey to college.
Congratulations, Marian Catholic Girls Soccer and seniors!
