The week of September 8th Marian Catholic celebrated their homecoming spirit week with a variety of spirit themes, a homecoming pep rally, the football game, and a dance. Students and staff participated in themed activities throughout the week dressing up as BBQ Dads, popular memes, dressing as their class, and wearing spirit class colors.
From Tung Tung Shakur to Lululemon jackets, many Marian students possess incredible fashion sense, which was well on display throughout the building. This strengthened the positive energy of homecoming spirit week, transforming the hallways into a runway for outlandish outfits and fun “athleisure.”
Students had a range of thoughts on the chosen themes, ranging from enthusiastic support, to recommendations for improvement.
“Of course, I like spirit week. I also thought that meme day was a creative theme. I do think that more pop culture should influence the themes and what not,” senior Kendall Change remarked.
“Personally, how I felt about themes was that I think that they were generic and bland. People weren’t really dressing up, maybe for barbecue dad people were, but I do think it could’ve been more unique. However, in terms of school spirit, I think it was actually really good. Everyone was a lot more lively. It just felt like a community. I think it was a good build up to homecoming.” Junior Gabby Stovall revealed.
During the pep rally, students concluded the week’s celebrations with a flag football game showing the battle of upperclassmen against underclassmen. The final match concluded with the staff defeating underclassmen with a celebratory touchdown.
The Spartan football team also picked up a key victory with a lopsided 39-24 win against De La Salle!
