The 2024 MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) were a pop culture spectacle, packed with
memorable performances and major wins for artists like Taylor Swift and Sabrina Carpenter.
Held in September, the event spotlighted music and social moments that captivated audiences
worldwide.
The night, however, really belonged to Carpenter, taking home the honor for Song of the Year
with the hit “Espresso”. Her performance was a real visual treat, performing a melody of songs
consisting of “Please Please Please”, “Espresso”, and “Taste” from her new album Short n’
Sweet. This night sealed Carpenter’s status as a pop sensation, effectively growing her
influence in the world of entertainment.
In addition to Carpenter, Taylor Swift ruled the VMAs, taking home a total of seven awards
including the top prize, Video of the Year, for her collaboration with Post Malone on “Fortnight.”
She also took Artist of the Year and Best Pop, using the platform to honor 9/11 victims and
encourage voting in the upcoming U.S. election. Also getting a lot of attention was Swift’s
romance with Kansas City Chiefs player Travis Kelce, whom she thanked for bringing “so much
joy” to her recent projects. Other big winners of the night included Chappell Roan, who took
home Best New Artist, while Eminem won Best Hip-Hop for “Houdini.”
October and November 2024 are shaping up to be a thrilling month for fans of both TV, film, and
musicals, with the return of “Heartstopper” for its third season, “Joker: Folie à Deux”,
“Beetlejuice Beetlejuice”, In October. While the long-awaited release of the Wicked movie
adaptation, and Moana 2 will drop in November.
Season 3 of “Heartstopper”, based on Alice Oseman’s graphic novel series, arrives on October
3, 2024. This season gets a little more mature as Nick Nelson navigates a relationship with
Charlie Spring, particularly dealing with Charlie’s mental health struggles. It also covers a look
toward the future for the characters, including university plans and a deepening in the romance
between Nick and Charlie.
