Senior Bryan Johnson Represents Cross Country Excellence

On Friday, Nov. 5, students reclaimed a school tradition as they stepped out of their third period classes to cheer on one of their own.
Senior Bryan Johnson started his journey to the IHSA State Finals in Peoria by running through the halls of Marian Catholic High School, a tradition that Cross Country Head Coach Tim Sovereign said started five years ago.
Principal Steve Tortorello made an announcement encouraging students to step out their classroom doorways to show their support for Johnson, who competed Saturday, Nov. 6.
Johnson received applause and cheers for a season of hard work.
On Oct. 30, Johnson qualified for state by posting a 16:23 for three miles, placing 17th overall at the Metamora 2A Sectional.
In Peoria, Johnson improved upon his Sectional time, posting a time of 16:19.12 on Nov. 6, placing him near the middle of the 236 runners who qualified across Illinois.

Hello, Thank You for the write-up but the credit for the “athlete through the hallway” idea really should go to Coach Murray, it was his idea. The custom BEFORE this was to gather in the West Gym lobby. So, please give credit where credit is due: to Coach Murray.
Thanks,
Coach Tim Sovereign
